Building the Kingdom in Burundi
Dear
Team,
All going well this end for us, although nationally famine has kicked in and things continue to be desperate. On the security front, there are rumours of the former PC planning bad things, so we have been told to be more vigilant.
My concerns continue with regards the conference centre. The buildings are looking so very impressive (SU Building) and I am thrilled with progress of the work. Many people in town comment to me on how amazing it looks and what a fantastic project it is. But we need to import so many materials because quality is rubbish here. So imagine the 550 seats (like at the cinema) for the conference room. We have had quotes for $90/seat. Well, that with transport and tax adds up to $60,000/£33,000, just for seats! We will hopefully get a better deal that that, but you can imagine, with needing to fully furnish three massive buildings ( 7,000sq.ft. of tiles, glass for windows, 40 toilets, beds, another 500 conference chairs, 70 doors, 50 tables and desks etc), it is not going to be cheap. I lay awake last night thinking about it and struggling to release it to the Lord, who has already provided so much. Labour (up to a hundred men on site) has been under $2/£1/day, so the whole amazing project will still cost about a quarter of what it would in the West. We want it to be the best, for God's glory. Prayers for breakthrough please.
We have a team of six coming out for two weeks from Cheltenham this Sunday. It'll be hectic as usual. Please pray it is a key life-shaping experience for each person, and that they may be a blessing to the Burundian church; also for the usual issues of safety in travel, health, annointed speaking opportunities, etc
Lizzie's bit: "Thanks for all the prayers and support you send our way. I really appreciate them. Sorry I'm not into email like Simon! Our big news is that I am in the very early stages of pregnancy. We're letting you know this soon so that you can pray, all the more because I've had some pains which are hopefully nothing, but they make me a bit nervous. Zac continues to be a total joy. He's tottering along on his chubby white legs, and loves to talk (who does he get that from i wonder?!). His vocabulary at the moment consists of: "Dog, no, ball, mama, dada, bubble, Bible, papaya". I've overheard Simon working very hard at bath time to teach him to say 'crown jewels' - hmm, what to do!
OK, that'll do for now, God bless you all,
Simon Guillebaud
