| In
December we told you that we had had a busy month. Well January
has been even busier! We started with a very happy visit from
Bill and Joan Houston, our South African friends. A week later,
we welcomed William Challis, who was here 25 years ago when the
Institute first opened. He took over the teaching in the
Institute for 2 weeks, which everyone enjoyed! |

|
With
William came the Youth Worker from his parish, a young man from
Zimbabwe
called Soul Magura. He stayed with Martin and together they
visited 7 Secondary Schools around Matana, where Soul preached.
He also had time in the Institute, exploring with the students
how to start and manage Youth Work in
Burundi
. Soul was a breath of fresh air! We hope they will come back
next year!

At
the end of January, Dr Richard and Mrs Prilla Rowland and Eric
Singirankabo came, sponsored by the Judah Trust, to run a 3-day
workshop seminar about HIV/AIDS. The seminar was greatly
appreciated by the 30 + representatives from all the
Archdeaconries that attended. The teaching centred around the
work of Christ on the cross, bearing our sins, our pain and
wounds, and helping us forgive others. The whole time allowed
for transformation as well as the input of information. We are
VERY grateful to R, P and E for such a great week working
together. |

On
January 29th we had a wonderful day of celebration
when 27 ordinations took place. 25 were ordained Deacon and the
husband of my colleague Eularie was one of the 2 to be priested.
A few days later, we were present when they all received new
bikes (see above) thanks to gifts given via our small projects! |
|
 |
In
the New Year, Eularie and I identified 60+ families of People
Living With AIDS and of orphans who were struggling with food
shortages because of the late rains. Thanks to a gift from
Jubilee Action, we have been able to distribute basic food
supplies of beans, rice, oil, milk, sugar and cereal for the
last two months and will do the final distribution in March.
Buying, weighing out and distributing large amounts of food has
been time consuming and tiring and I praise Eularie for her
enthusiasm and energy, even being 7 months pregnant!
The
thanks and joy of the recipients was tangible. |
|
Please join us in praying
for :- A safe delivery for Eularie
- Safety and blessing over the next 5 weeks as we visit
all 5 Archdeaconries in the Diocese for 3 days of teaching in
each. Bible teaching from Pat Brooks, AIDS teaching from E and
me and specs distribution by Pam Brooks and her friend Sue
Finlayson - Safety for Bishop Bernard at WCC meeting in Brazil
-Regions of Kirundo and Ruyigi who are experiencing drought and
famine and much suffering - Mark in London with Claire &
Paul, Beth in Cambridge and Kate in Afghanistan. Thank you!
