Dr Barbara Bapty died in Shrewsbury on Tuesday 24th.February 2009. Barbara (nee Walkey) worked with Allan at Kigeme (Rwanda) in 1955, subsequently at Matana in 1957, Nyankanda Leprosarium in 1959 and Kisiizi Hospital (Rwanda) in 1961; they returned to Buye in 1962, returning to UK at the end of that year. After a year when Allan was working in Geriatrics, they moved to a General Practice in Trumpington. They had five children. Barbara had been ill for the past five years, had been unable to speak for over two years and had difficulty in swallowing. Three weeks ago she wrote a note saying, 'I am not at all afraid of dying, in my heart I have peace'. She developed bronchitis towards the end of February and spent her last few days peacefully and comfortably with her children. Thank God for her life and work and pray for their children
