I. Inauguration of Schools in Makamba
The 2nd Vice President of Burundi has
officially inaugurated Dr Rowan Williams' school in
Makamba Diocese on April 25th, 08, one of the six
schools in construction within the Anglican Church of
Burundi with the funds from Lambeth Palace.
The ceremony was part of other
activities mainly:
- the inauguration of two primary
schools in Nyanza-Lac and "La Baltique Primary
School" both built by ADRA DK
- the inauguration of 700 houses for
vulnerable people built by the Diocese of Makamba with
the financial enablement of Christian Aid-Burundi

The 2nd Vice President has praised the
Anglican Church of Burundi for her various interventions
in community-based development projects such as schools,
hospitals, humanitarian assistance, water and
environment.
II. The International Labour Day in
Makamba
The International Labour Day was
celebrated in Burundi on 2nd May 02 because 1st May was
a Christian Holy Day (Ascension). The current government
respects the Christian holy days, a sign that we have to
be proud of. In Makamba Province, the Head of State was
represented by the Minister of Defence and
ex-combatants. In his speech, he has encouraged the
people to live in harmony and peace, to work hard and
increase production in their respective jobs. Lastly he
has presented a prize of honour to ten best workers in
Makamba while the Bishop of Makamba has been proclaimed
"the man of the year". Blessed are the
community based development officers, for they shall be
honoured.
III. Diocesan Staff in a picnic

Saturday, 3rd May 08 was set apart for
the Diocesan staff to enjoy their annual picnic. It was
extremely hot at Saga Nyanza Beach where they had
preferred to enjoy this picnic. Various games were
organized including beach volley ball, beach soccer
(football to some readers), table tennis, and swimming
and just for fun. The picnic was climaxed by sharing a
meal of French fries and broiled fish. This has reminded
us that Jesus Christ used to share roasted fish with his
disciples. Well! What a picnic!
