Education in Makamba

In order to support the National Programme of Education, the Diocese of Makamba is ending the construction of a School in Makamba urban centre. This project has been financed by the Archbishop of Canterbury Hon. Dr Rowan Williams in his programme of assisting the Country through the Anglican Church towards improvement of Education in Burundi. This work has helped more than a hundred families to labour for their daily bread. The School will officially open this coming academic Year (September 08). Thanks His Grace.

Refugee Education Trust (RET)

After making a great positive impact in constructing some schools in Makamba such as Muyange and Nyabigina Secondary Schools, RET has recently supplied 80 sacks of cement and 50 iron sheets to support the parents' initiative in Nyabigina . This is not enough in the sense that Tanzania Government has decided to repatriate all Burundian refugees by the end of this year. Students will come in big number. We encourage not only RET but other generous donors to assist the Diocese in building more classes.

Send a Cow After the war which has taken many livestock, the Diocese has distributed cows to some families in Makamba. These cows will provide to such families: milk for the children, manure for the plantations and some family income. The first borns will be offered to other families different from the first. Thanks to Trinity Church, USA for enabling the Anglican Church of Burundi to supply over 60 cows throughout the six Dioceses.

Easter retreat In all parishes

pastors are touring sub-parishes with the message of the Cross. Many Christians who backslided came back to Christ, others got Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour. We praise God for that.

It's no longer a dream but a reality!

As income generating project, the Diocese has purchased a cow for the Bible College. We hope that the forthcoming students will get enough milk and that enough organic fertilizer will contribute to increase food production for the College.

Visits in Makamba

The Diocese of Makamba has witnessed many visits:

  • Mr Benon, the RET national coordinator visited Makamba
  • Rev Pascal Bigirimana in charge of Education Programme and Rev David Peck visited the Diocese to see how far the programme has gone.
  •  Dr Paula Gliefford visited Makamba in the project of Environment
