WORLD AIDS DAY
“MURABACU” TESTING CENTRE OPENS
On Saturday 1st December the President of Burundi, His Excellence Peter Nkurunziza, officially opened the National Council of Churches’ (CNEB) centre for voluntary counselling and testing for HIV. The centre is supported by Christian Aid. Its name “Murabacu” literally means “You are ours” and reflects the desire to empathise with, care and love, those who visit the centre.
The President was given a tour of the centre that included seeing the President of CNEB and Archbishop of Burundi, the Most Rev. Bernard Ntahoturi, having an HIV test.
The CNEB churches in cooperation with other churches such as the Danish Baptist Church have, in addition, set up an interdenominational network to address the issues of HIV and AIDS.

MU
TRAINING
MU leaders and pastors met in Gitega at the end of
November to consider the subject of trauma healing.
Claudette Kigeme, one of the speakers, shared some
Scriptural insights into expressing emotion. The
training was part of an ongoing programme to see how the
Church can minister to the traumatised and encourage the
elimination of violence against women.

SAMARITAN
STRATEGY and
VIVA NETWORK
How
can the Church make disciples of nations? That was the
central theme of the Vision conference organised by the
Province and facilitated by Samaritan Strategy Africa
and CMS designed to equip churches for holistic
discipleship. It
was followed by a one day workshop provided by VIVA
Africa that looked at ways in which the Church, NGOs,
the Government, and other organisations could work
towards an integrated strategy that addresses issues and
needs of children in
Burundi
