VISITORS

The Province has welcomed a number of visitors recently. 

The Rt. Rev. Michael Scott-Joynt, Bishop of Winchester diocese in UK , visited in order to strengthen the links between his diocese and the Province.

Rev. Dr. Francis Bridger, Executive Director of the Centre for Anglican Communion Studies at Fuller Seminary, Pasedena , California was able to renew his longstanding links with the Province and look at how they might be extended.

Helen Stawski from Lambeth Palace made a brief visit to see schools in Makamba as part of the ongoing school’s project.


MALARIA PREVENTION

33,000 mosquito nets from Nets for Life have arrived for distribution in the dioceses of Bujumbura , Matana, and Gitega. Before distribution a programme of education of beneficiaries is being undertaken in order that they understand why and how to use the nets. 

The Province also recently welcomed Janette O’Neill from ERD. She visited Buye, Muyinga, Makamba, and Matana dioceses in order to see the impact of the malaria programme, the associations working with micro-finance, and to review the new development programme.


MOTHERS’ UNION

Mothers’ Union is grateful to Mary Sumner House for the financial support that meant that beans and maize were distributed in all the dioceses to families affected by hunger and famine. 


CELEBRATION IN KARUSI

The Province joined the celebrations in Karusi for the dedication of the parish church of St. John the Baptist. The preacher at the service was the Archbishop of Burundi, the Most Rev. Bernard Ntahoturi. Also present were the Bishops of Buye and Muyinga, and the former Archbishop.



THE COUNTRY

In early June the Most Rev. Bernard Ntahoturi met the British All Party Parliamentary Group that visited Burundi . He, and the Bishop of Bujumbura, Rt. Rev. Pie Ntukamazina, also participated in the Great Lakes Region workshop on security and repatriation of Rwandese refugees in Bukavu.

On 18th June 2007 Burundi became a member of the East Africa Community.

On 1st July the country celebrated its 45th  Day of Independence.
