DISTRIBUTION OF MOSQUITO NETS
The Province began the distribution of the mosquito nets provided by ERD during November. The first recipients were in the area of Nyanza Lac, in the diocese of Makamba, where the prevalence of malaria is high due to its proximity to the lake. The diocesan HIV coordinator also received a motorcycle that will enable her to monitor the use of the nets. The programme of education prior to distribution of nets continues in the dioceses of Buye and Muyinga.

THE COUNTRY
Heavy rain has fallen in recent weeks causing considerable damage and loss of life. In Makamba, for example, it is reported that tomatoes, beans, vegetables, sweet potatoes and other crops have been destroyed in the valleys while three people were drowned in the Mutsindozi River and another four people were hit by lighting in a thunderstorm. There are fears in several dioceses that famine will result from this situation.
